At Seattle Nanny we take extra measures to ensure that our screening is incomparable. Please note that as of April 15, 2009 we will begin fingerprinting as part of the application and screening process. We also offer optional 'Anniversary Screening'. Return to us at the commencement of one year and we will re-screen your nanny at no additional charge. Samples of our background checks as well as typical nannies placed by the agency follow in applicants #1-3. Each of the first three nannies were actually placed by the agency as either permanent or temporary candidates. Please keep in mind that background checks comprise only a portion of the screening process.

Placed Nanny Applicant 1
This is an example of a highly qualified, or 'top tier' nanny with superb background, references, education and experience. She is a former Registered Nurse and nanny of many years for private families in the Seattle area. She has been placed in both permanent and temporary positions through Seattle Nanny.

Placed Nanny Applicant 2
This nanny is a Registered Nurse working in a Seattle area hospital. She graduated from University in Idaho, spent time working as a nanny in California, spent time working as a nurse in Arizona, and currently resides in Washington. Her residential history required the agency to confirm clearance in each of these states. She has been an on call/temporary nanny with Seattle Nanny for several years.

She currently resides in Washington and therefore was checked in each state and multiple counties. She received a Certified Professional Nanny degree and is currently working as a long-term temp nanny with Seattle Nanny.

Following are some examples of criminal reports found during our screening process (applicants #4-10) which rendered these applicants unplaceable by the agency. In most cases, these applicants went on to find employment either as a nanny or in general childcare fields (i.e. daycare and preschools) through other means.

Nanny Applicant 1
This applicant claimed, in a signed document, that she had never been charged with or convicted of a crime. She was later placed through a leading local agency.

Nanny Applicant 2
An initial criminal background trace for this candidate yielded two case numbers, which were described simply as “archived.” Our background investigation firm persisted in recovering the archived data for two weeks, only to uncover that the applicant had been tried and convicted on four criminal counts, including minor in possession and possession of marijuana. As the record shows, after the applicant served her sentence, the cases were “dismissed” and removed from public view. Although the applicant claimed no knowledge of any incident that would constitute a criminal history, and the Washington State Superior Court initially told our investigation firm that the record was inaccessible, we persisted and successfully uncovered this applicant’s damaged record.

At the time of her application, the candidate was employed as a nanny through a source outside the agency.

Nanny Applicant 3
Although many agencies choose not to obtain an Education Verification record for new applicants in order to reduce costs, Seattle Nanny verifies the educational history details our applicants provide. This applicant claimed she had obtained a degree in Early Childhood Education from Washington State University—a check with Student Clearing House revealed this statement to be false. When confronted, the applicant could not produce a copy of her degree. In addition, a Criminal History Check for this applicant revealed a charge of “Unlawful Issuance of Bank Checks.” The applicant denied any knowledge of the charge both verbally and on her application. Prior to her application, this candidate had been a licensed daycare owner.

Nanny Applicant 4
A Criminal Background trace for this applicant revealed a charge, conviction and sentence for 2nd Degree Theft. When confronted, the applicant admitted that the charge pertained to an incident involving theft of a domestic employer’s credit cards.

Nanny Applicant 7
Although she lived in Utah for only 6 months, a criminal background check in that state yielded a citation for speeding, which is, according to Utah County Law, classified as a misdemeanor. While many agencies only check a nanny’s records in the state of Washington, Seattle Nanny runs checks in all counties and states of residence seven years prior to the date of application.

At the time of her application, this candidate was employed as a nanny through a source outside the agency.
